Compartment No. 6 (2021 film, released in North America in 2022 so I’m counting it as a 2022 film)

I can’t tell you that this film’s dedication to understatement will work for all audiences. “Compartment No. 6” doesn’t hit you over the head with its table setting or character growth, opting to let the audience come to understand these elements for themselves, and I can see how that can manifest as frustrating for some. For me, it conveyed a true journey, not just of Russia but of emotions, where characters do things near the end they wouldn’t at the beginning because they’ve grown, naturally, before our eyes, into someone they weren’t. Should’ve been nominated for Best International Feature Film.
