Colossal

"Colossal" ends a hell of a lot better than it starts. It starts as a romantic dramedy that plays its magic bean (lost soul realizes she can control a kaiju halfway across the world under certain conditions) for light laughs and light drama, and it makes for light fare while the visuals suggest the director would rather be doing something requiring greater ambition. Then the second half happens and "Colossal" becomes an astronomically more interesting film than was hinted at in its trailers. It's the sort of film practically destined to develop a cult following sometime in the hopefully-not-too-distant future.
