Censor (2021 film)

A lot of folk seem to dislike this film because it is too obtuse and confusing, which is mind-boggling to me as I thought the straight-forward storytelling was something of a drawback. “Censor” earns its gory beats with a good story, a strong visual aesthetic, and enough metacommentary via its setting that it feels very much of the present day, but it’s also too neat and tidy to be loved. Is it a spoiler to say I might have preferred having FEWER answers by the end? If you haven’t seen “Perfect Blue”, add a point or two to the score.
