Bayonetta

Bayonetta is definitely not a flawless game—there’s no excusing the QTE sequences, and the story is so ludicrous in scope and underwritten where it matters that you’ll likely have little clue as to what is happening until near the end of the game. That aside, the gameplay feels immediate, vibrant, and satisfying across so many playthroughs that even its biggest setbacks feel like mosquitos hitting a windshield of a car going 75 mph. The standard setter for character action games when it was released, and my personal pick for the second-best game released in the seventh generation of consoles.
