Angst (1981 film)

Well, I was promised one of the most unsettling films of all time and I felt part of my soul leave me as I watched this, so I guess I got what I wanted out of this film. “Angst” finds this weird position between hyperstylized and ultra-realistic, alternating between fanciful camera work to illustrate the villain protagonist’s unwell state of mind and plain, almost utilitarian shots of the unspeakable that doesn’t give the audience the benefit of a camera cut, forcing us to stay in the horrible, horrible moment. This was banned in many countries for plenty of good reasons.
